With reference to paragraph 5 of

your Despatch No. 376 of the 4th. December, 1900, I

have the honour to transmit for your information the

#nclosed copy of correspondence by despatch and telegram

which has passed between myself and the Officer Adminis-

tering the Government of the Straits Settlements respect-

ing the appointment of a successor to Mr. Brewin, and to

request your sanction for the transfer of Mr. Irving to

the Service of this Colony and for his appointment as

Inspector of Schools.
